Acool and cloudy morning greeted 28 teams of one man and one woman of varying abilities as they challenged the Turtle Lake Golf Course with 18 holes of golf on Oct. 16. The teams contended for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.

There was little wind, and it was great to be outdoors, playing with fellow golfers. The course was in very good shape with just a few continuing waterlogged bumps on the fairways of holes No. 3 and No. 8. The good playing conditions contributed to outstanding scores with 25 of the 28 teams being net at or below par, and there were 14 circle hole winners with 52 birdies.

Low net score for the round was a 42 by Gene Archambault and Mary Ann Moore. Closest to the pin for the men was Marv Jones and Ron Steele, and for the women it was Janice Turner and Sophia Kim.

Interesting statistics: Overall average gross score for all 28 teams was 59.5 shots or 5+ over par. Overall average net scores for all 28 teams was 49.8 shots or 4+ under par.
