LW Men’s Golf Club
Turtle Lake Golf Course hosted the Leisure Worlds Men’s Golf Club tournament on Oct. 9. The weather was overcast and cool, and the course was quite damp. Fifty-two golfers with handicaps from -2 to +18 competed in three flights and contended for best gross and net (gross score minus handicap) scores, plus four circle holes — shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded—and two closest to the pin challenges.
With the exception of several waterlogged humps on the third and eighth fairways, the course was in very good condition. Damp greens led to highly receptive greens, and several low gross scores.
Lowest gross scores were Pat Paternoster, 2 under 52; Dave LaCascia, 1 under 53; and Bob Barnum at even par 54. This week 18 of the 52 rounds were net at or under par, and there were 50 birdies and seven circle hole winners.
Best net scores of the round were Kevin Daeley, 11 under 43; new member Luke Seewoo, 5 under 49; LaCascia, Paternoster and Manny Miranda at 4 under 50.
Closest to the pin on the first hole was Barnum at 1 foot 4 inches, and Alan Sewell at 1 foot 1 inch on the tenth hole. A new statistic: the average net score for all 52 players was 57.5 strokes or 3+ over par. The average gross score was 66.7— almost 13 over par.
All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-6): LaCascia and Paternoster, first place: Barnum, Gene Archambault, Bob Johnston and Dennis McMonigle, second; Fujio Norihiro, Thomas Kim and Bob Turner, third.
B flight winners (handicaps of 7-12): Sunwoo, first place; Richard Yokomi, second; Daniel Keum and Jack Haskins, third; Won Song and Kevin Lindstedt, fourth; Jun Sup Yoon, fifth; John Rudosky, sixth.
C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Daeley, first place; Miranda, second; James Choi and Art Salazar, third; Steve Kang, fourth; Won G. Park, fifth.
The next men’s tournament on Oct. 23 will be played by teams of two men in a format identical to the way the Guys and Gals tournament is played. Look for details in the starter shack and on bulletin boards. Listing of pairings will be available at the golf shack. Contact Alan Sewell to request changes.
The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The Guys and Gals Tournament is played on the third and fifth Wednesday of each month. Those who had planned to play and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Alan Sewell at 542-324-8558 as soon as possible. Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time.
—Dave LaCascia To speed up the game, park golf carts and clubs toward the next tee, never in front of the green being played. Also, try not to not place bags or carts on a tee box and never on a green.
