Letters to the Editor

Editor:

This election is not a fight between two qualified, well intentioned statesmen. Donald Trump and JD Vance have told us who they are and what they will do if elected. Democracy itself is on the ballot.

Whether we “like” Kamala Harris or her policies is secondary. What matters is whether our Democracy itself can survive the beating it is taking.

Do you support:

• A rule of law that aims to protect us equally irrespective of race, religion, national origin, color, sex or disability?

•A responsive government with one vote per person?

•Regulations to allow us to breathe clean air and drink safe water?

•Healthcare choices?

•Medical and other programs to assist us in old age?

•Free public education available to our kids?

These are but a few benefits that have been hammered out over the years in high-stakes, bilateral discussions in Congress. None is perfect but they do aspire to make our lives easier and more predictable so we can live our lives and plan for the future. Growing up in the ‘40s and ‘50s, it never occurred to me that our democracy was fragile and might someday need my help to maintain it. But that day has now come.

The ballots will soon be delivered, and we must all vote. We must vote with a clear-eyed recognition that our vote may very well impact the country our children will inherit. This will be our greatest legacy to them.

Calling all patriots: If you are able to, and concerned with our current condition as a nation, please join us on the 405/605/22 Seal Beach Boulevard overpass to display support for the United States of America.

The demonstration of support will begin at noon, Saturday, Oct. 19.

We will be on the sidewalk nearest Orange County Fire Station No. 48 (facing southbound traffic), holding flags and banners, etc.

It would be awesome if people wore red, white and blue, but it is not required. I am looking forward to gathering with all who can make it happen.

Some chairs will be available. May God bless us, everyone.

The day of election is fast approaching. It is sad how divided the country is. Each side is trying to tear down the other side. Neither side is doing anything to bring our country together. It seems like even the newscasters are divisive. Where is Walter Cronkite?

We can look at this election from two perspectives. One is to look at it through an emotional lens where our feelings are most important and we are controlled by our emotions.

The other perspective is to look at the situation through a lens of hard cold rationality in which we are controlled by our intelligence.

So each one of us has to make a decision. Are we going to act intelligently or react emotionally? That’s usually the choice, and we have all done both. That’s human.

Which perspective or point of view do we utilize to choose a candidate, our emotions or our intelligence?

Once we have figured that one out, then we are able to ask ourselves another question: Are Kamala Harris and Donald Trump appealing to our intelligence or to our emotions? I believe they are both appealing to intelligence and emotion. That is also human.

What I would ask of all of us is that we try to figure out which candidate is appealing more to our intelligence or more to our emotions.

Watch the candidates as they speak and answer questions to get a better idea as to which perspective each candidate is appealing. Our country’s future depends on your vote.

Kamala Harris was asked by the harpies on the View, “would you have done something differently than President Biden over the past four years?”

Her response: “There is not a thing that comes to mind. I’ve been a part of most decisions that have had impact.”

In her defense, she probably had many things in mind, but knew that if she attempted to elucidate them, it would have come out as “word-salad” gibberish.

Sixty-three percent of Americans believe that the nation is headed down the wrong track.

Inflation is at 40-year highs and has far outpaced wages. The average family today needs to earn $11,434 more to maintain the standard of living that they maintained in 2022. Core CPI rose again in September by 3.2%.

Americans need an annual income of $110,871 to afford a median priced home vs. $55,000 just four years ago.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials just announced that there are 425,000 convicted criminals illegally living in the U.S., with 60,000 convicted of assault, and 16,000 convicted of sexual assault. Homeland Security has announced that the Biden-Harris Administration has lost track of 320,000 migrant children.

Joe Biden and border czar Kamala Harris reversed 94 Donald Trump executive orders, resulting in 10-20 million illegal aliens crossing the border during their tenure. Those not impacted by inflation and illegal invaders—celebrities and rich, predominantly white leftists living in gated communities—nice for them, but what about the average American? Kamala Harris is a train-wreck. Her running mate is a congenital liar. Make America safe, affordable, prosperous, healthy and great again.
