Tournament names a champion
LEISURE WORLD POOL CLUB
The Leisure World Pool Club (LWPC) held its monthly tournament recently with only C level players participating. This meant a chance for a first-ever singles tournament championship for one of the 16 entrants. In the end—and it was a long battle on the tables—WildFire! Christensen came out on top as the C tournament singles champion.
Christensen had to navigate through a double-elimination eight-ball tournament featuring many players on the rise. After winning her first two matches, she was defeated by Guta Basner and dropped to the losers bracket. There she defeated the sharp-shooting Jennifer Spindler and advanced to the tournament final and a rematch with Basner. There Christensen used her top-level determination to win two straight games and capture her first LWPC singles tournament title.
In week nine of straight pool, Rusty Aquino and Dave Silva both won to remain undefeated at 9-0. Steve Edrich and Russell Black each notched their seventh wins of the reason. Along with Jennifer Spindler they hold down the third through fifth spots. In a match-up of two of the best players, Tom Zimmerman knocked off Ruffy Ramos to get his fifth win of the season. Ramos dropped to 6-3 and into a sixth place tie with John Barth. Gary Monahan fought off an 11-ball run by Barry Brideau to get his all-important fifth win. Bruce Pettys also improved his chances for a playoff spot with a solid win over Dave McKinder.
