Stay safe during the holidays

LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) President Catherine O’Brien will teach the next safety class on holiday safety on Friday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. All residents are encouraged to attend to hear tips on how to keep the home safe during the holidays.

Sgt Brian Gray of the Seal Beach Police Department and Anna Bilyk, an instructor in West Orange County CERT, spoke at last month’s class on situational awareness and home safety. Gray pointed out the importance of signing up for public notification systems such as ALERT OC, Shake Alert and NIXLE while providing information on different types of home and personal safety/alarm devices. He also shared practical tips for improving awareness in a variety of situations, while Bilyk discussed the latest techniques scammers use via e-mail and texts.

Freddie Ginder was the recipient of September’s giveaway that included a collection of go-bag necessities and O’Brien thanked Sgt. Gray with a gift card.
