LW Men’s Golf Club

The Turtle Lake Golf Course hosted the Leisure Men’s Golf Club tournament on Sept. 25. The weather was overcast and cool, and the course was quite damp. Fifty-two golfers with handicaps from -3 to +18 competed in three flights and contended for best gross and net (gross score minus handicap) scores, plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closest-to -the-pin challenges.

With the exception of a very wet first fairway and several waterlogged humps on the third and eighth fairways, the course was in very good condition. The damp greens led to highly receptive greens and several low gross scores.

Best net score of the round was Alan Sewell—Mr. 20 putts for the 18 holes—at 9 under 45, followed by Joon Sup Yoon,46, and Dave LaCascia, 49. Closest to the pin on the eighth hole was Andrew Kim at 4 feet 5 inches, and on the 17th hole it was Bob Johnston at 3 feet 7 inches. Lowest gross scores were Sewell, 3 under 51, followed by LaCascia and Pat Paternoster, 1 under 53. Seventeen of the 54 rounds were net at or under par, and there were 46 birdies and seven circle hole winners.

A new statistic: the average net score for all 52 players was 58.2 strokes or 4+ over par. The average gross score was 64.9— almost 11 over par.

All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-4): LaCascia, first place; Paternoster, second; Fujio Norihiro, third; Seon Kim, fourth; Seung Lee, Bob Barnum and Thomas Kim, fifth; Ralph Koizumi, Mike Mayfield and Dong On Kim, sixth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 5-10): Sewell, first place; Joon Sup Yoon, second; James Farr, third; Gene Archambault fourth; June Um, fifth; Daniel Keum, sixth; Ron Steele, John Rudosky and Andrew Kim, sixth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 11-18): Mike Carlson, first place; new member Kevin Daeley, Jack Haskins and Steve Kang, second; Hyon Shin and Manny Miranda, third; Richard Yokomi and Lee Broadbent, fourth; Jon Russell, fifth.

The next men’s club tournament will be on Oct. 9 and then every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The Guys and Gals tournament is played on the third and fifth Wednesday of each month. Those who had planned to play and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Alan Sewell at 541-324-8558 as soon as possible. Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
