Femaleresidents who want to find support on their weight-loss journey and meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by one of Wa-Rite’s meetings.

The Wa-Rite is a women-only club and meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. Those dimes go to the person who lost the most weight that week. LW ID cards must be shown.

Last week, the club lost a total of 5.5 pounds. There was a tie for a top loser of the week with Linda Nye and Linda Rich both losing 2 pounds in one week. Nye credits her success to not eating after 5 p.m. and also cutting down on sweets. Rich also changed her eating habits by making healthier choices, drinking plenty of water and working hard to stay on the program.

Vice President Bev Bender made a presentation on weight loss goals. She said that having a weight loss buddy could help to stay on track. Bender also added that keeping a food diary for feelings and nutrition, setting a realistic weekly goal, moving during commercial TV breaks, and changing a self talk from “I need to” to “I want to” could help with weight loss.

Bender also encouraged everyone to take advantage of the LW Walking Trails Guide and start walking. The guide is available in Recreation Office, Building 5, and the News Office.

From Sept. 20 through Nov. 8, the club will have its annual Funny Money Contest where members can earn funny money through their weekly efforts. That money can be used at the holiday auction on Dec. 6.

The weekly food for thought was: “Excuses won’t burn calories, but the actions will.”
