The OC Board of Supervisors encouraged to expand services for older adults
The Orange County Older Adult Advisory Commission is expected to encourage the county Board of Supervisors to expand services for older adults to keep up with the services already offered in nearby counties. “The county needs to budget more money to meet senior needs,” said Meredith Chillemi, commission chair. Currently, older adults make up 16% of the county’s population of 3.2 million. That number is expected to increase to 26% within the next few years, according to Chillemi.
Leisure World is currently represented by District 1 Supervisor Andrew Do, who will term out by the end of this year. His seat is open in the coming election with a field of five seeking to replace him, including Cypress City Councilwoman Frances Marquez, State Sen. Janet Nguyen, Do’s chief of staff Van Tran, former Fountain Valley Mayor Michael Vo and Westminster Councilwoman Kimberly Ho. In addition to Leisure World, District 1 includes all of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, La Palma, Westminster, Fountain Valley and most of Garden Grove. —Mariann Klinger District 1 Representative to the Planning Advisory Commission
