On Sunday, Sept. 29, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the 19th Sunday after Pentecost with Bishop Murray Finck presiding.

The Communion and worship service gathers at 13564 St. Andrews Drive every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The congregations will welcome new members this week.

Fellowship will continue after service in the Fellowship Hall, where members will celebrate September birthdays and its new members All are welcome.

The congregations will continue to collect food donations of canned and boxed foods for the hungry.

The Bible study is on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from noon-1:30 p.m. Bishop Murray Finck willleadthediscussion. Plans are being made for a new study in October.

This Sunday’s message will center on Jesus talking about cutting off body parts to keep from losing eternal life. He talks about being salted with fire. Ministry is hard. It involves service and sacrifice. Jesus’ first followers did not live long, happy, healthy lives. The saints and martyrs are saints and martyrs because of the long road they walked to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. Most believers will not have their faith challenged to the point of death. Yet, for others in the world, it is still a possibility.

The day-to-day living of faith authentically and fully can be difficult. It’s every day, every hour, every minute, making decisions to act out of love, to see Jesus in the people you encounter, to answer the call of God, and to give water in the name of Jesus. Jesus challenges every believer in their vocation in life. He challenges people to live as Christians, to give water to the little, the lowly, the unseen, the forgotten, the dismissed, the untouchable.
