Assembly of God
The word of God consistently underscores the dignity of, and gives honor to, the aged. It is inspiring when God uses a youth to slay a giant, or a young girl to hide in the rushes of the Nile and keep watch on her baby brother, hidden from murderers, floating in a pitch-lined basket. But Leisure Worlders can find joy in the knowledge that God used many people well into their 80s and even 100s to speak through and fulfill his promises. In a messge titled “Aging with Grace,” from Luke 2:21-38, Pastor Chuck Franco will look at the prophets Simeon and Anna, who were among the first to recognize Jesus was the promised Messiah. Perhaps it was their wisdom gained from experience, paired with their eager expectation, which allowed God to use them to proclaim that the answer for the humankind’s separation from God had arrived: Jesus, the Messiah. Celebrate God’s grace and blessing on seniors this coming Sunday, Sept. 29, as the Scripture reveals how to continue to live in grace throughout the golden years.
The Wednesday Bible study begins a new series titled, “Seven Essentials for Finishing Well,” by Hal Habecker. The first essential to be unpacked is “We Will Grow: We Will Not Stay the Same.” This lesson speaks to the issue of becoming stagnant or stuck in one’s attitude or condition. It is a law of nature, which God set in place, that things are either growing or they are dying. Nothing healthy remains the same.
