For the month of September, the sermon series will focus on Letters of James. On Sunday, Sept. 22, Fink’s sermon titled “God Yearns for Humble Hearts,” which focuses on James 3:13-4:3, 4:7-8.

Fellowship will continue after service in the Fellowship Hall for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks.

The congregations continue to collect donations of canned and boxed foods for the hungry.

The congregations thank the community members who participated in the annual “God’s Work. Our Hands.” outreach program. Non-perishable food donations were collected and given to the Lutheran Social Services in Santa Ana to help feed the hungry in Orange County.

The Bible study will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from noon-1:15 p.m. This is week four of a five-week study titled: “The Decalogue—The Ten Commandments,” which looks in-depth at the Ten Commandments. Bishop Finck will lead the discussion.

In Mark 9:30-37, Jesus travels to Capernaum. Jesus does a bit of foreshadowing. He states that the person who wants to be greatest needs to be a servant to the others. Jesus does this at the Passover meal when he washes the feet of his disciples. Then, Jesus puts a child in front of them and tells them they must welcome this child. Jesus was making a point. Believers need to be aware of those in need and do something. Even with small steps and small choices.
