Hui O Hula

Hui O Hula Hui O Hula

Hui O Hula, the Leisure World Hawaiian dance group, offers hula lessons on Tuesday upstairs in Clubhouse 6 from 1:15 p.m., and on Thursday outdoors at Veteran Plaza, also from 1:15. Class meets indoors in Clubhouse 3 during unsuitable weather.

Hula is a moderate workout for the body and an excellent exercise for the mind. All are welcome to class, either to hula or just to enjoy the music and watch. Hula takes not only hand and foot coordination but it also requires specific movements and gestures in order to interpret the story told in the song. By coming to class often and practice, one will learn to dance with flowing hands and swaying bodies. Wear comfortable and flowing dresses for the dancing. Bring socks or soft booties if dancing barefoot is difficult. For more class information, call 562-431-6308.

Joy Keenan (fourth from left) invited dancers to entertain her fellowship, Christian Roads, at the Bethany Church in Long Beach at its luau/party.
