LW Men’s Golf League

Eight Leisure World Men’s Golf League members and one guest—Duke Park— battled the par-70, 5,800-yard River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on Aug. 30. The tees, greens and fairways continue to be well maintained, making River View a pleasure to play. This course parallels and crosses the Santa Ana River several times, and has numerous water and sand hazards to capture wayward shots. Add to this several elevation changes and River View is a challenge to all.

It was an overcast morning with no wind that warmed up quickly with full sun towards the end of the round. With decent playing conditions, scores were good but only two birdies were carded—one each by Clay Fischer and Chris Lankford.

Tom Ross, Dave LaCascia, and Lankford tied for first with 4 under 66; Fischer and Andrew Tierney were second at 1 under; Sam Choi took third, followed by Fujio Norihiro and Gary Stivers. Choi was closest to the pin on the 100-yard par-3 ninth hole, and LaCascia and Tierney tied for fewest putts.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par), are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
