First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

After several weeks studying the history of Abraham’s grandson Jacob/Israel, Genesis 36 returns to Jacob’s brother Esau. Esau had sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew. Esau became father of the Edomites, who became antagonists to Israel. These acts were a dishonor to not only his father but also to the Lord.

Pride consumed their hearts. They no longer served the God of their fathers but had turned to foreign gods. They either allied with Israel’s enemies and brought violence on them, or sat back and watched, cheered on Israel’s enemies, and joined in on the plunder. This was certainly justification for God to bring judgement upon them. A prideful heart is one that says, “I have no need for God, I’m getting along just fine on my own.”

Looking to the prophetic words of Obadiah reveals what God had to say about the Edomites turning their back on Yahweh and his people. Pastor Bruce Humes will explore further prophecies in Obadiah concerning Edom and additional revelations in Genesis 36.
