The Genealogy Club will recommence its general membership meetings this month. The club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, for the beginning of its speaker series. Coffee hour begins at 9:30 a.m.; bring refreshments to share with members and guests. People should use the sign-up sheet in the Genealogy Library.

This month’s speaker is Tina Sansone. Her presentation is titled “Genealogy Tips.” Sansone is a professional genealogist who loves to do research, lectures and DNA analysis. She is a co-owner of Past & amp, Present Pathways and is currently on the board of the TN Genealogy Society serving as director of its certificate program.

She is the registrar for her Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter and is a member of several lineage societies, volunteering as time permits. She currently lives in Mississippi and is a mother, grandmother and owner of four cats.

The election of new board members is slated for October.

Janet Lessin and Liz Rasmussen have served as co-presidents during the last three years and are adamant about retiring from their positions.

The club is looking for a person, or multiple people, to consider stepping up to keep the club going. The two are offering to help until the new president or presidents get going.

On Sept. 19, the club will hold board and committee meetings. On Sept. 25, it will hold a club membership meeting.

The upcoming Theme Thursday themes are “New search strategies on familysearch. org” on Sept. 12; “Ancient Rune Stone in Minnesota” on Sept. 19; and “Researching the Leisure World Genealogy Club’s Most Wanted” on Sept. 28, where people can get help finding information on someone in their family tree.

People are encouraged to send their genealogical challenges to the club to crowd source research assistance.

As part of the club’s ongoing partnership with the University of Kentucky in Lexington, this month the club added more than 300 new Kentucky newspapers to its archives. These newspapers are part of a larger project to digitize roughly 1,200 newspapers from Kentucky. The club has also added newspapers from Oregon.

The Genealogy Library is open Monday-Friday from 1-4 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and closed Sundays. Volunteers are needed.

The club accepts supplies of computers, printers, shredders, and office equipment like chairs, mouse pads, printer paper and more.
