First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
The history of the Middle East region is deeply embedded in the historical book of Genesis. Chapter 36 is the genealogy of Jacob’s twin brother Esau and many generations that came after.
Esau is the father of those who dwell in the land of Edom, which is located south and east of the Dead Sea. It’s a mountainous area and the capital is Petra, a city hewn out rock cliffs. Today the region is known as Jordan.
The prophet Obadiah wrote about the Edomites in Obadiah 1:3-4, “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rocks, whose habitation is high; you who say in your heart, ‘who will bring me down to the ground?’ Though you ascend as high as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down says the Lord.”
This verse is speaking of the pride of the nation and people of Edom and how it would be their downfall. By studying the genealogy of Esau, one is introduced to many prominent people and nations that are familiar to us today. Paul, the apostle, wrote this to the Corinthians several thousand years after Genesis was written: “Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction.” True then and still true today.
