A record number of LW Democratic Club members and supporters were on hand to welcome Cypress City Councilwoman Frances Marquez during the Aug. 28 membership meeting. She was there to talk about her campaign to replace termed-out Andrew Do as LW’s District 1 representative on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

Marquez, the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for county supervisor, electrified those in attendance with stories about her background as well as about what she hoped to accomplish if elected.

Interrupted several times by applause, Marquez described in detail why her support of changing Cypress City’s election system had resulted in harassment and retaliation. Because of this harassment, she is currently suing the city, three of her council colleagues and the city manager.

In addition to also talking about her personal and political background, Marquez pledged that—if elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in November—she will work closely with current supervisors Katrina Foley and Vicente Sarmiento to ensure increased accountability and oversight in the county government.

Frances Marquez for Supervisor yard signs will be available at the Democratic Club booth in the parking lot outside Clubhouse 6. The booth will be open every Tuesday and Thursday in September from 10:30 a.m.12:30 p.m.. Yard signs, including Harris/Walz and school board candidates Matt Bragman and Franaz Pardasani signs, are also available at the booth or by emailing mlarson.telfords@gmail.com.

Some races, including Marquez, will be listed on the November ballots as nonpartisan.

In preparation for the election, Democratic Club members and supporters will be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and staffing the club booth. Those who want to volunteer in any capacity can stop by the booth to sign up or call Kathy Moran at 805-588-5141 or email kmoran97@yahoo.com.
