Preparations for fall league play are in full swing
SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB
With September fast approaching, preparations for the Shuffl eboard Club’s fall league are underway. Sign-up sheets have been out for the past month and the quota has been met. Tuesday evening and Friday morning leagues will have five teams each with seven members per team. With so many people interested in shuffl eboard, the club is presented with a wonderful problem: Is there enough interest to start a third league? And if so, which day and time?
Those who have not signed up yet should get in touch with Karen Mendon. Several options are available at the moment, including a wait list and a sub list. Interest has been growing in a sub list for those who do not wish to play on a team weekly but are willing to sub in one or both leagues.
Captains needed
The club will hold training sessions for new and veteran captains so that everyone is on the same page with record keeping. Along with captains in training, team members are encouraged to come and practice with their teams in early September.
A special Saturday open play is scheduled for Aug. 31 from 10 a.m.-noon for residents who want to check out shuffleboard. Members can also use this time to refine their skills in preparation for league play and to enjoy the camaraderie of friends. All equipment is provided and a partner is not necessary. Closed toed shoes are required for the safety of all players.
