First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

Timothy 5:3-7 has much to say about widows. Paul’s letter is directed to pastor Timothy, with intention of directing the church to not neglect the poor among them. This was not a new instruction. It goes back thousands of years when God, through Moses, handed down the commandments for his people to follow.

Paul’s instruction directs the church today to see the heart of God for all his children. A woman whose husband has died is suddenly in a precarious situation. If she has no one to take her in likely will be destitute quickly.

Jesus said to his apostles, “Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?” Matthew 6:26.

This week, Pastor Gary Whitlatch will highlight another verse, 1 Timothy 5:5, in which the widow is directed to fix her hope on God and to make entreaties and prayers to him night and day. Whitlatch will discuss the power, weight and fruitfulness that can be brought to fruition by a praying widow. The fullness of these verses tells us everyone has a part in Gods kingdom.
