The American Latino Club will meet Friday, Sept. 13, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in Clubhouse 2 to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with Mariachi Real San Jose and an El Dia de los Muertos presentation by Julia Cervantes-Espinoza, a bilingual children’s book author. She will offer a distinctive presentation that merges a dynamic reading of her book “Calavera, Calavera, What do You See?” with an interactive, hands-on experience.

During the reading Cervantes- Espinoza will guide participants in the creation of a Día de los Muertos altar. This activity will enrich their understanding of this vibrant cultural celebration while providing a meaningful and memorable experience for all.

For lunch, people can choose between beef birria (marinated meat),three tacos al pastor (seasoned and marinated pork), or a chicken or cheese enchilada. All choices come with rice and beans. Hot sauce is available upon request. Beverages include coffee, tea, lemonade, a fruit drink and fresh fruit as dessert.

The cost for nonmembers who want to attend the mariachi presentation only is $8. People must arrive by 2 p.m. Reservations are required and payable to Treasurer, Myriam Klotz by U.S. mail or by dropping it off in the mailbox at 13940 Thunderbird Drive, 6-G. Checks made payable to the American Latino Club.

Members and guests can bring their own lunch and pay $5 for beverages and dessert but must let Klotz know. Payment must reach Klotz by Monday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. To RSVP, call 714-746-9626 –Miryam Fernandez
