Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can play at the next tournament on Sept. 7. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6. Registration begins at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

About 45 participants were ready to play an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em on Aug. 10. Two straight flushes won the high hands. Guta Basner had hearts from 2-6 and Donna Hernandez had diamonds from A-5. Hernandez also won a prize for winning with the promo hand of 8-2. As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Guta Basner, first place; Cheryl Enge, second; Cleo Looney, third; Glenn Evenson, fourth; Joseph Guglielmo, fifth; and Marvin Rolnick, sixth.

Once all the table winners were seated at the final table, play continued until Basner and Enge were head’s up. Holding K-K, Basner went all-in before flop and was called by Enge holding A-9. The flop was 9-107, giving Basner the lead with her kings. Enge still had live cards with a pair of 7s. The turn was a 4; no help to either player and the river was a 3, giving Basner the winning hand with K-K-10-7-4.

Basner has lived in Leisure World for 11 years and has been a member of the poker club for eight years. This was her ninth final table win at regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Basner enjoys pickleball and billiards here in Leisure World in addition to all kinds of puzzles and Sudoku.

The club congratulates all the winners.
