Spice it up! Herbs and spices may help lose weight
Female residents who want to find support on their weight-loss journey and meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by one of Wa-Rite’s meetings. The Wa-Rite is a women-only club and meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. Those dimes go to the person who lost the most weight that week. LW ID cards must be shown.
Wa-Rite members lost 20.5 pounds the week ending Aug. 9. Mary Messersmith was named the biggest loser. She lost 4 pounds in one week by eating less carbs, more fish, and exercising several times a week.
President Judy Chambers interviewed the queen of the month Karen Green, who was wearing her “age to perfection” sash. Green has been a LW resident for four years and has three children, 11 grandchldren and six great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include bike riding, dog walking and going to the beach. Pat Miller gave a talk on healthy spices and herbs that worked for her and may help others on their weight loss journey. They are turmeric to fight inflammation; ginger for digestion; cumin for cholesterol and stress management; peppermint for digestion and muscle relaxation; cinnamon for inflammation and flavor; garlic to prevent heart disease, high cholesterol and blood pressure; curry for inflammation; and paprika to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, improve immunity and alleviate gas.
Judy Chambers’ food for thought was: “The only limitations that exist in our lives are our own. Make peace with your gains, so it does not affect your losses.”
