LW Men’s Golf Club

Sixty-six variously skilled golfers participated in the LW Men’s Golf Club tournament on Aug. 14 at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Players participated in three flights and vied for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes and two closest-to-the-pin challenges.

The course is looking very good with the help of the GRF Facilities Department, and players are repairing their divots and ball marks. Most of the wet spots and sprinkler issues are gone with just a few weedy spots on several greens. Golfers need to keep up their end of maintenance as they are the significant users of the course. Continue to fix divots and ball marks, and then fix one more.

The August heat was in full effect at the start of the tournament. Much of the round was played in full sun with a slight breeze and rising humidity. Even so, 32 of the 66 rounds were net at or under par, with 75 birdies — up from 64 last month— and 10 circle hole winners.

Best net score of the round was Marv Jones at 47, followed by Seung Lee, Peter Kim at 48, and 3 others at 49. Closest to the pin on the sixth hole was Bill Lyons at seven inches and on No. 15 it was Dong On Kim at 3 feet. Lowest gross scores were Seung Lee, Bob Barnum and Bill Lyons.

All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Seung Lee, first place; Don Newhall, Rolando Ramirez and Gene Archambault, second; Seon Kim and Jae Choi, third; Dave LaCascia, Fujio Norihiro, Thomas Kim and Bob Barnum, fourth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-11): Peter Kim, first place; Terry Thrift, second; Ron Steele and Garry Newhall, third; Darry Holten and Danial Keum, fourth; Won Song, Young Lee and JR Rudosky, fifth; Kevin Lindstedt, sixth; Bill Zurn and Jack Haskins, seventh.

C flight winners (handicaps of 12-18): Marv Jones, first place; John Sorenson and Bob Boyle, second; Scott Tuchfarber and Won G. Park, third; James Choi, fourth; Steve Kang, Lee Broadbent and Dennis Jensen, fifth.

The Men’s Golf Club summer picnic will be held after the men’s tournament on Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse 1 picnic area. Tickets are $10 per person, and the club will be providing food, salads, drinks and desserts. All are invited.

Men’s tournaments are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The Guys and Gals Tournament is played on the third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. Those who had planned to play and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Alan Sewell at 541-324-8558 as soon as possible. Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
