First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
Pastor Bruce Humes will continue preaching from Genesis 35. God once again appears to Jabob and again tells him “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, But Israel shall be your name.” God then instructs him to “Be fruitful and multiply,” and a very important final message: “A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, The Land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you. And I will give the land to your descendants after you.”
Israel begins a journey from Bethel to the tower of Eder. In route, his wife, Rachel, gives birth to Israel’s 12th son. Rachel dies giving birth, but as she does she names Israel’s son Ben-Oni, meaning “son of my sorrow.” After Rachel passes, Israel renames his son Benjamin, meaning “son of my right hand.” In Scripture, the right side is associated with strength and honor. Rachel is laid to rest in Ephrath which is Bethlehem, and Israel erects a pillar on her grave. Israel’s journey continues and he pitches his tent beyond Eder.
Benjamin brings the number of Israel’s sons to 12, and these 12 sons will come to be known as the 12 tribes of Israel, and a nation that God will use for his purpose, for it’s from this nation that the Messiah, the anointed one, Jesus of Nazareth will come.
Weekend Services
Sunday services from 9:3010:45 a.m. are traditional services with hymnal music led by Janet Ray and Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Ray will bring the special music accompanied by Pat Kogak singing “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked.”
Saturday services from 9:3010:45 a.m. include contemporary songs of worship, led by Gregory Black on guitar and vocal accompaniment.
Midweek Studies
Melli Herrera leads a Women’s Bible Study on Mondays from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Pastor Gary Whitlatch leads the Tuesday Bible study from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Pastor Humes leads the Thursday Bible study from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
The Prayer and Bible Study, led by Pastor Humes, is from 4-5 p.m.
All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend services and Bible studies.
