Community Response Team to meet
EARTHQUAKE PREP
The LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) will hold a training class on what to do after a disaster strikes. The 4.4 earthquake that struck the greater Los Angeles area—and was felt in LW—on Aug. 12 is a reminder of the importance of preparing for an emergency.
LW CERT team member Patrice Johnson will present the program at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. She will cover topics related to coping after disaster.
LW CERT’s free monthly safety classes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are 45 minutes long. All residents are welcome to attend; refreshments are provided.
CERT training sessions cover basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available.
With training and practice, and by working as a team, people are better able to protect themselves and maximize their capability to help the greatest number of people after a largescale emergency.
