Administration Committee Recap
by Ruth Osborn
Communications Director
The Golden Rain Foundation Board Administration Committee met Aug. 15. Here are the highlights:
• GRF Information Email There is an information email that residents can use for questions and comments at info@lwsb.com. The mailbox is staff-monitored, and submissions of general interest will be answered in the LW Weekly.
People can also connect with the GRF at lwsb.com. Click “Contact” on the home page and select “GRF Board” from the drop-down menu under “Send To.” Write comments in the “How can we help you?” box and include your name, email, and phone in the appropriate spaces.
The GRF Board takes every suggestion and comment under consideration and appreciates hearing from fellow residents.
• Disposal of Surplus Property—Obsolete Fleet Vehicles
The Administration Committee ratified an earlier board decision to dispose of four pick-up trucks and five Minibuses that have exceeded their lifespans. Some of them date to 1988.
The vehicles will be auctioned off, with the proceeds coming to the GRF.
• Corporate Communication Strategy
Committee member Maureen Habel discussed communication strategies to best connect with all residents, including those whose first language is not English.
She specified that GRF communication should be easy to find, easy to understand and helpful. She focused on finding ways to convey budget information and simplify governing documents to make the information more accessible.
Goals include explaining acronyms, avoiding the use of jargon and obscure financial terms plus other tools, like bullet points, graphics and pie charts, among others.
The committee agreed to start simplifying governing documents, one at a time, in an upcoming work study. It also decided to rename Corporate Communications Strategy to Shareholder Communication Strategy going forward.
Executive Director Jessica Sedgwick supported the idea of using Leisure World’s communication channels, such as the LW Weekly and social media, to better apprise people of projects GRF staff and directors are working on.
GRF President Janet Isom advocated using every channel to foster transparency, including keeping livestreams public-facing as long as possible (before sending them to the resident portal).
