Anti-slip Coating for Locker Room Floors

The Facilities Committee met Aug. 6 and will recommend that the GRF Board approve the application of a non-slip coating to the locker rooms at the LW Aquatic Center. When the newly reconstructed pool opened two years ago, the floors met safety standards, but general wear and tear, combined with built up residues from soaps, shampoos and topical creams, can make floors less slip resistant.

Last month, Sotter Engineering Corp. tested the floor’s slip resistance and concluded that the flooring has slip potential. The cost to apply a textured slip-resistant coating to the existing floor surface should not exceed $6,580.

The committee unanimously agreed to recommend approval at the full GRF Board’s next regular meeting set for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Clubhouse 4.

New HVAC in Clubhouse 6

The Facilities Committee unanimously voted to recommend GRF Board approval for the replacement of an air-conditioning unit in Clubhouse 6. Greenwood Heating and Air can install the unit for $11,985, which will come from reserve funding.

Completed and Ongoing Projects

Among projects that have been completed are installation of an On-Site Sales sign at the Main Gate, the replacement of three new Security vehicles, which were delivered in July; and the addition of an RFID lane at the Main Gate.

In process are an upgrade to a broken elevator in Building 5; EV engineering at the GRF Maintenance Yard, the traffic signal upgrade at Golden Rain Road and St. Andrews Drive, speed cushion installation and roof replacements at clubhouses 3 and 4. A project to add flex space in Clubhouse 2 should be completed in the next few weeks.

In a Community Gardens update, Senior Facilities Director Mark Weaver reported that Orange County has provided free compost to amend garden soil. J & J Landscaping has been picking up compost loads and dumping them at the 1.8-acre site for free and will place compost in gardens for a small fee.

The GRF Board decided not to amend soil in the gardens during the original project approvals to save money. The free compost has helped to assuage complaints about rocky soil in the plots.
