GUYS AND GALS GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Guys and Gals Tournament was played on July 31 in lovely, sunny conditions.

A total of 27 teams—54 players—competed on the 18 holes. After the tournament, a potluck luncheon was held at the Clubhouse 2 picnic area. Delicious dishes and desserts were brought by the players and hot dogs were provided by the Men’s Club.

The week’s tournament was a shotgun start where the golfers start at all nine tees at the same time and play 18 holes. With great playing conditions, scores were excellent with 25 of the 27 teams being net at or below par. Low net score for the round was 41 by Dave LaCascia and Liz Meripol, and Art Salazar and Jane Kors. There were 20 rounds at net 50 or less plus 10 circle hole winners with 52 birdies. Closest to the pin on the 75-yard eighth hole was Alan Sewell and Linda Herman, and on the 17th hole it was Dave LaCascia and Linda Herman.

There was one hole-in-one by Marv Jones on No. 9—the longest hole on the course at 118 yards.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-8): Pat Paternoster and Sue Sloan, 10 under 44, first place; Young and Hae Lee, Bill Lyons and Yasamin Merali, and Mike Mayfield and Nancy Tye, 9 under 45; second.

B flight winners (handicaps of 9-12): LaCascia and Meripol, 13 under 41, first place; Dennis McMonigle and Bert Thompson, 11 under 43, second: Terry Thrift and Nina DeRosa, 9 under 45, third; John Rudosky and Nancy Smith, 8 under 46, fourth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Salazar and Kors, 13 under 41, first place; Paul Shellenberger and Lynn Baidack, Lee Broadbent and Joann Lim, and Scott Tuchfarber and Pam Krug, 11 under 43, second; James and Grace Choi, 10 under 44, third; Marv Jones and Marilyn Hewitt, 9 under 45, fourth.

The next Guys and Gals Tournament will be held on the third Wednesday of August. The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Those who had planned to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
