SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

With 90 members, the LW Shuffleboard Club has a wide variety of people enjoying one of the oldest sports in the LW community.

Sitting on the bench are shuffleboarders with extensive tenure. Sal LaScala has been a member over 10 years, and John Mount joined the club in 2019. Twelve members playing league have been members for five or more years. The club has four additional members who joined the club more than 10 years ago and are still loyally active through social events.

New members, represented by Judy Hulin and Harold Morehead, both joined in April, 2024, after spring league teams had already been established. They will be playing in their first league starting in September along with approximately 10 other new members.

Fred Carpenter represents several active members who once participated in club league, retired due to personal situations, and returned in full force. The club stays flexible to support members through challenging times and welcomes them back when life allows.

A large club, with many moving parts and demanding building maintenance, requires dedicated members. Shel Magnuson and Rod Osgood both joined the Shuffleboard Club in 2022 and now work in specific jobs for the club. Magnuson is a host for open play once a month and is a captain of a Friday league team. Osgood is vicepresident of the club, assisting with many of the demands of the building along with a variety of other contributions.

Throughout July, the courts building was open for play 22 times, entertaining approximately 250 people. Throughout August, the shuffleboard courts will continue the regular open play schedule to include Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9-11, Wednesday evenings from 6-8, and Friday mornings from 8:30-10:30.

The next all-member general meeting will be Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 1, and the club barbecue will be Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Clubhouse 1 picnic area.
