City offers beach wheelchairs to people with disabilities

CITY OF SEAL BEACH

The City of Seal Beach is committed to ensuring easy access to the municipal beach for all visitors and residents. In collaboration with OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, it installed accessibility mats that significantly improve beach accessibility, creating a safe and comfortable pathway for people with disabilities, limited mobility, families with strollers and others with specific needs to enjoy a day at the beach.

The mats are strategically placed at the corners of the Eighth Street and 10th Street beach parking lots.

In addition to the accessibility mats, the Seal Beach Marine Safety Department offers two beach wheelchairs donated by the Seal Beach Lions Club. They feature large, wide wheels designed to move easily across sand without sinking. The beach wheelchairs are free and available from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at lifeguard headquarters, located at 888 Ocean Ave. in Seal Beach, in the 8th street beach parking lot. Wheelchairs are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

These combined efforts aim to broaden access to Seal Beach and a beachfront for everyone to enjoy.
