Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can join the Tournament Poker Club at the Saturday tournament on Aug. 4. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6. Registration begins at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

About 50 participants played an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em on July 13. High hand winners were Nancy Floyd (A-A-A-A-Q) and Maryanne Conter (1010-10-10-K). Ric Enge won a prize for winning with the promo hand of 7-2.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Lee Pfeifer, first place; Sharon Kirshner, second; Marvin Rolnick, third; Martha Destra, fourth; Ernie Dinkle, fifth; Kathy Seagroves, sixth; Bob Konier, seventh.

Play continued until Kirshner and Pfeifer were heads up. Holding 8-5, with only one chip left, Kirshner went all in before the flop and was called by Pfeifer holding J-K. The flop was J-Q-7, giving Pfeifer the lead with a pair of jacks. The turn was another jack, giving Pfeifer three of a kind. The river was a 10, no help for Kirshner, giving Pfeifer the winning hand.

Interestingly, Kirshner and her husband had just joined the club that day—and she won her table. She is a great player, and the club is happy to have her and her husband, Wayne, joining in. Pfeifer has lived in Leisure World for 11 years and has been a member of the poker club for 10 years. This was her 13th final table win at regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Pfeifer enjoys cribbage and bocce ball here in Leisure World in addition to being a competitive runner.
