SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

The LW Shuffleboard Club will add spirit to the summer hiatus by sponsoring one last July gathering on Wednesday, July 31, at 3 p.m. at the Courts Building. Everyone— new members, seasoned members, and anyone who is interested in learning shuffleboard— is invited to attend.

The club’s “On the Line” game is a take-off of shuffleboard, where points are earned when a disc lands on one of the many lines, rather than avoiding the lines. In addition, people at the same end of the court are not competitors but work together to score points as a team. There is a $2 entry fee to play the two-game tournament, and all money collected will be split between the top teams.

The recently installed fans keep the temperature at the courts comfortable for afternoon play; however, cool clothing is suggested and closed-toe shoes are a requirement. The event will end with a potluck of light snacks and drinks provided by all participants, who will bring their favorite happy hour refreshment to share. To RSVP and for more information, visit the Courts Building for the sign-up sheet and a promotional flyer, or call or text 775-527-0426.

Throughout August the shuffleboard courts will return to a regular open play schedule to include Monday and Wednesday mornings 9-11, and Friday mornings 8:30-10:30. Any Leisure World resident is welcome to attend. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Members are urged to signup for the Aug. 24 picnic; signup sheets and a promotional flyer are available at the Courts Building. An accurate count of picnic attendees is crucial to determine the amount of tri-tip to purchase for the event.

Fall season league sign-up sheets are available at the Courts Building. The club voted in July to move the start time for Friday league games to 9:30 a.m., requiring members to arrive at 9 for set-up.
