LW Men’s Golf Club
The Leisure World Men’s Golf Club had its first tournament of month at the Turtle Lake Golf Course on July 10. Sixty-two variously skilled golfers participated in three flights and vied for best net scores, plus four circle holes and two closest to the pin challenges.
Overcast weather and humid conditions resulted in only 27 of the 62 rounds at net at or under par, with just 64 birdies and only six circle hole winners.
Best net score of the round was Peter Kim at 44, followed by Jae H. Lee, 46; Marv Jones, 48; and four others at 50. Closest to the pin on the eighth hole was Ralph Koizumi, and Bill Zurn on the 17th.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Koizumi and Dong On Kim, first place; John Kolthoff and Young J. Kim, second; Bill Lyons, Thomas Kim and Don Newhall, third; Young Lee, fourth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 6-11): Jae H. Lee, first place; Roland Phillips and Zurn, second; Terry Thrift, third; Jae Choi, fourth; James Farr and Dale Williamson, fifth; Hyon Shin, sixth.

GRF has been very responsive to requests from the golf club board for repairs. There has been dramatic improvement in the maintenance and overall condition of the golf course. With wet spots eliminated, defective sprinklers replaced, trees trimmed, new red/white/blue flags installed, plus improved tee boxes, abundant divot fix materials, and relatively weed free greens, the club thanks GRF staff for its timely responses and continuous efforts.
As users of the course, it is the players’ turn to keep the maintenance obligation going. The club and Recreation have purchased two ball-mark fix-it tools that can be signed out from the starter and used to easily— without bending over—to fix every ball mark.
In July, there is a fifth Wednesday that will be the Guys and Gals Tournament. There will also be a potluck luncheon following play at the Clubhouse 1 picnic area. Sign up to bring something to the potluck.
Men’s tournaments are every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Those who had planned to play and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Alan Sewell at 541-324-8558 as soon as possible. Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
—Dave LaCascia It is players responsibility to fix divots on tees and ball marks on greens.
