First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together.

Pastor’s Message

Genesis 34 tells the story of Jacob’s daughter Dinah.

Dinah unfortunately catches the eye of Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the land. Shechem took her by force and violated her. The father, in a concession to his offending son, proposes that the two families should come together, marry and share each other’s wealth.

As this crime comes to Jacob and his sons’ attention, tempers flare, and a plan is hatched by the sons to deal with the problem. The sons propose a plan that will weaken the men and make them vulnerable to an attack. The plot is carried out, and Jacob confronts his sons telling them they have put their entire family at risk of a retaliatory attack. The brothers defended their attack as necessary because of the violence upon their sister.

The story reveals the consequences of retaliation in anger. God soon speaks to Jacob and advises a solution.
