Rusty Aquino crowned spring snooker champ
LW POOL CLUB
Snooker is a challenging game of billiards that takes smart decision-making and sharp shooting to succeed. The Leisure World Pool Club held its spring 2024 playoff championships on July 9. In the end, Rusty Aquino came out on top as the season’s snooker champion.
Twenty players took part during an exciting regular season, and 10 qualified for the playoffs.
First-round winners were John Barth and Barry Brideau. Advancing with quarterfinal wins were Pool Club president and regular season first place finisher Steve Edrich (11-1), Aquino, Gary Schnaufer and Brideau.
In the semifinals, Aquino eliminated Edrich and the red-hot Brideau continued his excellent play with an upset win over Schnaufer.
In the championship match, Aquino got off to a quick start displaying his magnificent shooting touch and never looked back on his way to the title.
The straight pool league will begin play July 23 in Clubhouse 1. The fall league will begin play Monday, Sept. 2, in Clubhouse 2.
