Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore

On Sunday, July 21, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost with Bishop Murray Finck presiding. The Communion and worship service gathers at 13564 St. Andrews Drive at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.

Fellowship will follow service in the Fellowship Hall, where coffee, tea and snacks will be provided. All are welcome.

The congregations continue to collect donations of canned and boxed foods for the hungry. The Bible study group will meet on Wednesday, July 24, to begin a new study on the Book of Jonah. Bishop Murray Finck will lead the discussion.

This Sunday’s gospel message is about rest, healing, compassion and pure faith. The range of emotions that are displayed in this short passage is manyfold. It begins with the excitement of the disciples reporting back to Jesus about what they had done and what they had taught.

Jesus meets with the crowd, having such compassion for them, to the point where, rather than resting, he continued teaching. People had such pure faith in Jesus that they believed they would be healed just by touching his cloak.

Jesus was not just being responsible for himself, or a small family, or even a large extended family; he was trying to care for an entire nation, and by extension, the world.

Believers are encouraged to take a moment and thank Jesus for giving so much of himself for the world.
