Expanded open play times deemed a success

People have continued playing shuffleboard even without the structure of league play. Participation has been strong, with five weekly time slots when the courts are open and club members are available for training beginners for the rest of July. Last Wednesday morning two new people came to open play to try their hand at the low impact game, and at the Wednesday evening session 17 members attended and enjoyed the comfortable temperature of the indoor courts.

For next week, the shuffleboard courts will again be open for play on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9-11, Wednesday evenings, July 17 and 24, from 6-8, Friday mornings from 8:30-10:30, and Saturday morning, July 20, from 10–noon. Any Leisure World resident is welcome to attend. Closed-toe shoes are required.

On July 11, 28 club members attended the monthly general business meeting. A half dozen new members attended and seemed to enjoy understanding more about the overall workings of the club. Announcements and discussions ensued on a variety of topics including the annual summer picnic and fall league.

Members are urged to signup for the Aug. 24 picnic as soon as possible as the tri-tip needs to be ordered. A solid count of attendees is more critical this year than in years past. Signup sheets and a promotional flyer are available at the courts building Sign-ups for Friday morning fall league are active, with 20 people currently wanting to play. The club voted to move the start time for Friday league games to 9:30 a.m., requiring members to arrive at 9 for setup. Sign-up sheets are at the courts. Members interested in playing Tuesday evening league will also find the sign-up sheets at the courts building.
