People who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with the Tournament Poker Club for a $5 buy-in can play at the next Saturday tournament on July 13. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6. Registration begins at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30 and there is no late seating.

The club board offers a sincere apology to the players who were part of the final table at the Casino Tournament on June 8, but whose names did not appear in the article written for that date. The club congratulates Lem Hall, fifth; Patrick Conlon, sixth; Jack Pfeifer, seventh; and Joe Baumler, eighth.

Due to special events held earlier in June, June 22 was a make-up day. Almost 50 players started the tournament and by 10:30 all the seats were filled and everyone was ready to “shuffle up and deal.” Play continued until there were six final table players. After Tony Canfora, sixth; Brent Covington, fifth; Bill Clawson, fourth; and Richard Jones, third, were eliminated Tom Pappas and Joseph Baumler were head’s up. In the last hand, Baumler went all-in before the flop with A-J. He was called by Pappas with A-3. The flop came 7-Q-Q which left Baumler in the lead. The turn card was an 8, which was no help to either player. The river card was an ace which gave both players a pair of aces, but Baumler won the hand with a jack kicker. Baumler has lived in Leisure World for five years and has been a member of the club for two years. Besides poker, he enjoys playing golf.
