Group will discuss poverty in America

HUMANIST ASSOCIATION

The Leisure World Humanist Group meets regularly on the first Sunday of the month. The group’s next meeting is on Sunday, July 7, in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, at 10:30 a.m. Speaker Rachael Lehmberg will discuss poverty in America and why, in such a wealthy country as this, poverty is consistently a major and growing problem. Lehmberg will present a PowerPoint presentation on the subject, titled “A Fresh Look at Poverty in America.” She will present from material from recent books by Bernie Sanders and Matthew Desmond. Discussion will follow.

Lehmberg knows what it is like to struggle financially. In addition to the well-researched information in her talk, she will share stories about how her family dealt with issues such as affording education and end-of-life care.
