OC Sanitation district pump station project lane closure

The Orange County Sanitation District began a three-year project to replace the old pump station at Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue. Due to space constraints and the need to keep the existing station operational during construction, the new pump station had to be built around the existing structures. Originally, daily lane closures were planned on Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue to store equipment, but this would have prolonged the construction duration and possibly caused motorist confusion.

To streamline the project, a proposal was made to permanently close the northbound third lane on Seal Beach Boulevard at Westminster Avenue, converting it into a right-turn only lane onto eastbound Westminster. A traffic study confirmed that reducing Seal Beach Boulevard to two through lanes could manage peak traffic. This closure, which will affect the northbound traffic along the pump station and a portion of the Naval Weapons Station frontage, will ultimately shorten the project’s duration.
