LW Baptist

Christians are described in song as, “you who for refuge to Jesus have fled.” LW Baptist will celebrate God as refuge on Sunday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 4.

Hebrews 6:18 says, “By two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us.”

Refuge cities in ancient Israel pictured the gospel of God’s grace in Christ, because sinners seeing themselves subject to God’s righteous judgment submit to his law, accept his plan for mercy, and link their lives with Jesus, their great high priest. His death on the cross pays their penalty and ransoms them from everlasting punishment. The thief on the cross illustrates this. “Jesus,” was his plea, “Remember me when you come in your kingdom.” Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in paradise.” This is the meaning of being in Christ, to be in God’s place of refuge.
