Female residents who want to find support on their weight loss journey and meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by one of the Wa-Rite meetings at 9 a.m. The Wa-Rite is a women-only club and meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. That dime goes to the person who lost the most weight that week. LW ID cards must be shown.

Last week, the club lost a total of 24 pounds in one week. Jeanette Williams was the biggest loser with a 4-pound loss. She said it was a long time coming and credited her clubmates for weight loss inspiration. Williams also gave up bread, dairy, sugar and carbs.

President Judy Chambers said sometimes finding a different approach to a problem could lead to its solution. She added that switching a mindset from “I hope I can do this” to “I’m going to make it happen” could be a game changer.

Henrietta Peavy talked about dieting and food choices and how life events may affect it. After her back injury, Peavy had to change her diet and supplements in order to lose weight. Taking collagen, drinking plenty of water and consuming her last meal before 6 p.m. worked in her favor and led to a gradual weight loss. She also started eating less bread and starchy vegetables (like corn and potatoes), more protein and less sugar per her doctor’s advice.
