First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together,“That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

Pastor Bruce Humes continues in Genesis 31, when Jacob and his father-in-law have each voiced their 20 years of grievances. Laban comes to understand that he must relent and allow his children to go to Jacob’s homeland.

In Genesis 31:44 Laban says, “So now come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me.” Jacob and Laban made the covenant and declared the heap of stones as a witness. They agreed that neither Jacob nor Laban could pass the stones with the intent of doing harm to the other. Genesis 31:55 states that “early in the morning Laban arose, and kissed his sons and daughters and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his place.”

These sons and daughters, the children of Jacob by Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah will become the 12 tribes of Israel at the birth of Benjamin by Rachel.

Jacob returns to where the story started 20 years ago. He must prepare to deal with his twin brother Esau, who had sworn to kill him. Has 20 years healed the wounds of these twin brothers? In Genesis 32 this story will unfold beginning with Jacob meeting “The angels of God.”
