First Christian Church First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together,“That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

Jacob, as instructed by God to “return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you,” left Laban’s home with his wives and children. Laban gets word of this three days later and sets out in pursuit of Jacob.

On his quest to catch Jacob, God speaks to Laban and says, “be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.” Confrontation ensues with accusations from Laban wanting to know why Jacob left without a proper goodbye. He also wanted to know why Jacob stole his idols. Jacob had no knowledge of the stolen idols his wife, Rachel, had stolen.

After the search for the idols begins, Rachel, in a deceptive gesture, hides the idols in the camel’s bag and sits on it, preventing a search and discovery of the idols. Eventually, Laban and Jacob put aside their anger and formed an agreement, marked by a covenant.

This story shows the evidence of God actively involved with the affairs of mankind. God spoke to both Jacob and Laban as he moved to fulfill his purposes with Jacob and his sons.
