Men’s Golf League’s Fujio Norihiro scores eagle

Six Leisure World Men’s Golf League members and one guest played at the 4,000-yard, par-62 David L. Baker Golf Course in Fountain Valley on May 24. Tees were set mid-way in the tee box and flag sticks were generally set in difficult up/down/sidehill locations. These challenging conditions did not interfere with the dismembering of the course by the golfers.

Every golfer achieved a net score below par with a rare eagle by Fujio Norihiro on the 300-plus-yard par-4 16th hole. Chris Lankford and Dave LaCascia had birdies. LaCascia was closest to the pin on the 100-yard par-3 third hole, and Lankford was closest on the 140-yard par-3 12th hole. Bob Munn and Lankford tied for the fewest putts.

Standings: Munn, 11 under 51, first place; Lankford, 9 under 53, second; Norihiro, 7 under 55, third; LaCascia, 5 under 57, fourth; Sam Choi, 4 under 58, fifth; Bill McKusky, 3 under 59, sixth.

Eight league members tackled the 5,600-yard par-71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on May 31.

With decent, but damp, course conditions and no wind until the end, just five of the eight golfers scored at or under par. Dave LaCascia was closest to the pin on the 150-yard par-3 seventh hole, and no one landed on the green on the tricky 150yard par-3 16th hole, mainly due to the wind as this tee box is exposed at the highest point on the golf course. Clay Fischer and Bob Munn tied for fewest putts. Fujio Norihiro, Fischer, Jim Goltra, LaCascia, and Steve Tierney each had two birdies, while Sam Choi had one.

Standings: Norihiro, 8 under 63, first place; LaCascia, 5 under 66, second; tie between Fischer and Tierney, 4 under 6, third; Munn, 2 under 69, fourth; tie between Goltra, Lankford and Choi, 1 over 72, fifth.
