Shotgun Scramble brought 60 golfers to the course

GOLF

The Shotgun Scramble on May 29 at the Leisure World golf course was sponsored by The Januszka Group On-Site Sales which provided event prizes and breakfast for the players. The club thanks them. Scramble Director Steve Moody put on a fantastic tournament attended by 60 golfers of different handicaps and skills. Ten teams of six teed off at 7:30 a.m. and played a best ball scramble for 18 holes. Included in the play were four circle hole challenges and two closest to the pin contests.

Each player on the teams was required to use three of their drives as the best shot and then everyone played best ball until the ball went in the hole. This rule required strategy and tactics by properly choosing the correct drive to play allowing for different player abilities, difficulty of the future holes, and number holes left.

After three and a half hours first place was taken by Team 6 consisting of Ron Steele, Steve Walker, Dale Williamson, Joann Lim, Lisa Kim, and Pat Gunter with a 10 under round.

There was a tie for second place at 9 under between Team 8—Gene Archambault, Linda Herman, Ann Tran, Steve Kang, Nancy Tye and Scott Tuchfarber— and Team 1—Bill Lyons, Sophia Kim, Hae Lee, Sue Yokomi, Won Song, and Kyung Ju.

There was a three-way tie for third place at 8 under between Team 2B—Ralph Koizumi, John Rudosky, Jane Song, Karen Ford, Grace Choi and Marilyn Hewitt; Team 7—Dave LaCascia, Seon Kim, James Farr, Lee Broadbent, Ben Benjamins and Elizabeth Butterfield; and Team 9—Young Lee, Tom Owens, James Choi, Bill Zurn, Marv Jones and Liz Meripol.

Closest to the pin on sixth hole was Bill Lyons at 7 feet 7 inches and Pat Gunter at 7 feet 4 inches. On hole 15 it was Gene Archambault at 2 feet 11 inches and Pam Krug at 1 foot 6. Additionally, there were 10 circle holes plus 78 birdies.

A shotgun scramble tournament is anticipated to be scheduled two or three times a year on the fifth Wednesday of a month.
