“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust,” Psalm 103:13-14.

The word compassion is a powerful one. It describes what God demonstrates for his people. But the quality of compassion is running dangerously low in this world.

The Psalmist’s words help paint a moving picture of the compassion of a father toward his children. Compassion often rises in a father when he sees his children in some type of distress. It is the father who shows that no sacrifice too great for his child.

Just as a father is familiar with how vulnerable his children are, so is God. He is full of compassion. When his children walk through hard things, he steps in. And with his power, He sustains and enables believers to bear what they couldn’t have endured without him.
