Sunshine Club
Emily Wanous, engagement director from Algalita Marine Research and Education, will speak to the Sunshine Club about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch on Friday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.
Algalita Marine Research and Education is an organization that started the movement to end plastic pollution nearly 30 years ago. Led by lifelong Long Beach resident Capt. Charles Moore, Algalita became internationally known as the first organization to discover, and bring attention to, the swirling soup of plastic pollution in the Pacific—now known by many as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Since then, Algalita has worked to revolutionize the plastic pollution conversation by building a web of connections between researchers, activists, industry leaders, educators, and young people across the globe. This presentation will cover the history of plastic pollution, the complex relationship humans have with it, and the local and global efforts underway to address this pressing issue.
All shareholders are welcome to join this meeting. Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. People are asked to arrive on time, those who are late should quietly use the back door to not disturb the presentation.
