Don Newhall scores rare hole-in-one on No. 6
LW MEN'S GOLF CLUB
Fifty-five golfers played the Leisure World Men’s Golf Club Tournament May 22 at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Players participated in three flights and vied for best net scores—gross score minus handicap—plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closest to the pin challenges. Adding a little extra difficulty, the front nine was played from the red tees and the back nine from the blue tees.
With the course continuing to be in excellent condition, 31 of the 55 rounds were net at or under par, with a remarkable, second tournament in a row 83 birdies, and 13 circle hole winners. Additionally, Don Newhall got a rare hole-in-one on the 65-yard sixth hole.
First place in the low gross competition was won by Bob Turner at 5 under 49, followed by Pat Paternoster and Bill Lyons. Best net score was a tie at 44 by Kevin Lindstedt and Won G. Park, followed by Turner at 46 and Byron Schweitzer at 47. Closest to the pin on the 90-yard fifth hole was Thomas Kim at 3 feet 9 inches, and Bob Turner was closest on the 104-yard 14th at 2 feet 7 inches.
All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).
