Men’s Golf Club hosts 57 players for tournament

The first November Leisure World Men’s Golf Club tournament was held on Nov. 8 at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Three flights of variously skilled golfers vied for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closest to the pin challenges.

A total of 57 golfers teed off and played 18 holes on a beautiful fall morning. Only 15 of the 57 rounds were net at or under par, but there were 65 birdies.

The low gross competition was won by Bob Barnum at 1 over 55, followed by Bob Turner at 3 over, then Dong On Kim and Bob Johnston at 4 over. Best two net scores were Paul Shellenberger and Steve Kang. Lowest gross scores were by Dave LaCascia and Barnum at 1 over 55. Closest to the pin on the par 3 seventh hole was Bruce Bowles at two feet four inches and on the par 3 16th hole was Barnum at five feet four inches. There were also 15 circle hole winners.

A flight winners (handicaps 0-5): Dave LaCascia, 3 under 51, first place; Ron Steele, 2 under 52, second; Young Lee, even par 54, third; tie between Thomas Kim, Bob Turner and Bob Barnum, 1 over 55, fourth; tie between Alan Sewell, Mark Rice, Dong On Kim and Gene Archambault, 2 over 56, fifth.

B flight winners (handicaps 6-12): Paul Shellenberger, 7 under 47, first place; Steve Kang, 6 under 48, second; Steve Walker, 5 under 49, third; tie between Joon Sup Yoon and Bob Johnston, 2 under 52, fourth; Ron Jackson, 1 under 53, fifth; tie between Hyon Shin and Gary Newhall, even par 54, sixth; Jun Um, 1 over 55, seventh; tie between Dennis McMonigle and John Haley, 2 over 56, eighth.

C flight winners (handicaps 13-18): Kevin Lindstedt, even par 54, first place; James Choi, 3 under 51, second; Kevin Lindstedt, even par 54, third; Darry Holten, 1 over 55, fourth; tie between Lee Broadbent and Jack Haskins, 2 over 56, fifth.

The next men’s tournament will be on Nov. 22 and every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. There will be a fifth Wednesday Guys and Gals tournament on Nov. 29.
